His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s visit to Perth

His Holiness the Dalai Lama* received another warm welcome from Perth during his visit on the weekend of 18th and 19th of June – the Burswood Dome held about fourteen thousand paid ticket-holders. His holiness in his usual down-to-earth style spoke from the heart. For example after the “welcome to country” the Dalai Lama spoke off-the-cuff for about fifteen minutes on native rights and responsibilities. He said that the Sami peoples of Northen Norway have set a good example of engaging the modern world while at the same time retaining their culture and beliefs. Read more »

Live Export statement

The Federation of Australian Buddhist Councils have released the following statement on the Live Export issue:

The Buddhist community of Australia believes that the live export of animals for slaughter is needless and cruel, and we call for an immediate and permanent ban on this trade. Read more »

Australian Sangha meet in Perth

The Australian Sangha Association is an association of Australian Buddhist monks and nuns. The purpose of the ASA is to serve the needs of all Buddhist monks and nuns resident in Australia, without interfering in the internal affairs of any temple or monastery. It aims to promote the well-being of the Sangha, nurture its growth, and protect its interests. Read more »

Vesak Parliamentary Reception

The Buddhist Council of WA (BCWA) would like to thank Dr Mike Nahan MLA, Member for Riverton and his party colleagues for organizing a private reception at Parliament House on the occasion of Vesak Day on Tuesday 17th of May 2011.

This was the first time in WA that the Buddhist community was acknowledged in this way. Buddhist representatives got the opportunity to meet and speak with the WA premier Mr Colin Barnett, the Minister of Multicultural Interests Hon John Castrilli MLA and Members of Parliament. Read more »
